The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) placed its trust in ELIT Language Services to provide interpreting during the meeting dedicated to a topic that is nowadays more relevant than ever: the protection of unaccompanied children in the context of the refugee crisis. The meeting took place on Wednesday 5 December 2018 at the UNHCR premises in Athens, with ELIT covering the language pair English-Greek.
In a charged atmosphere, participants discussed the situation faced daily by thousands of unaccompanied children, in the presence of the National Centre for Social Solidarity and organisations such as ARSIS, CARITAS, FAROS, METADRASI, NETWORK FOR CHILDREN’S RIGHTS, PRAKSIS, SOLIDARITY NOW, VELOS. Their words echoed the voices of all those children whose words cannot be heard, as well as their concerns, their fears and the difficulties that they face daily.
Philippe Leclerc, Head of the UNHCR in Greece, was present, together with many representatives of the Greek authorities.
The meeting concluded with a public debate and a commitment on the part of everybody to provide a better future for the children.
